Live Joey Jordison solo....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdHceDElBxs

Jordison is a BEAST !!!!!  If you're a drummer, and you haven't checked out Slipknot yet, please put them on your list.  They are extremely HEAVY, and they may not be your cup of tea, but any band with a "percussion section" is OK by me.  The interesting thing about this clip is the way the drums sound compared to the way he hits the drums.  It sounds like he's destroying the kit, but when you watch him you'll see that he has a fairly light touch.

AMAZING ZenDrum Demo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-riu6QZ7xE

I fist saw the ZenDrum at the NAMM show a few years ago.  I tried playing it, and I sucked at it !  I could barely put a groove together on it.  That's why I'm so impressed with this guy.

Steve Gadd - the basic paradidlle grove
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wl4DKmbfDyk

What can we say ????  Gadd is arguably the most recorded drummer in history, and that's because he's an absolute genius on the drumset.  Paul Simon once said: "Everyone wants to play with Steve because his playing is perfect."  In my opinion, it's better than perfect.  You'd probably agree that it's next to impossible to pick just one favorite drummer, but if you put a gun  to my head I would probably pick Gadd.

I posted this clip because he takes something as simple as a paradiddle and turns it into a living, breathing musical phrase.  Go through the slow motion section and practice this groove.  It makes you feel good !

Terry Bozzio:  Klangfarben Melodie (2)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9IJhmAQx7g

Ahhhh yes.....  That must be what they do for fun on whatever planet Bozzio is from.  He puts the X in eXtreme !!!!!  A friend once told me after seeing Bozzio live, that he was convinced the drummer would die of a heart attack during the performance.  That there was no way someone could play that way and survive.  I saw Bozzio live once and didn't say anthing.... for a month.  I just couldn't TALK !!!

DAVE WECKL & Chick Corea El. B. Live at Montreux 2004 part 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZH0Lgt8_OA

When I first watched this clip I thought it was just another incredible Dave Weckl solo.  I didn't realize that the whole thing is a complete piece of music !  Check out how the other band members come in and out in perfect time.

Mike Mangini (Steve Vai solo)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31c-FL0ZlZ0

One word comes to mind when I watch this clip: SCARY !  It's like there's a small group of people in his head arguing over exactly what will be played.  In the end they stop arguing and agree to all play exactly what they want.....AT THE SAME TIME !!!!

I've met Mike Mangini a couple of times, and he's a very nice, friendly guy.  I guess something just "happens" to him when he gets behind the drums !

Steve Gadd - Fast Montuno
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyqxjfM9JWI

There are lots of Steve Gadd clips out there, but I'm posting this one because it contains something unimaginable:  GADD BLOWS THE ENDING !!!!!!

This clip just shows that in spite of his legend, Gadd is just a human being, like you and me.  He just happens to be a human being with a lot of talent and discipline.

Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Gadd

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ln6b_nBM-V8

These guys think they're cool just because they can play the drums better than most people on Earth.

So do I.

Be sure to check out the comments on this clip.  There are some interesting observations.

Fishing with Frank:

I like to fish, but most of the "big ones" I hook get away.  It has been suggested that I travel to Brazil and go fishing with these guys, so I can finally say I caught some fish !!!
